Grati-Tuesday

Last Saturday I decided it was finally time for me to mop our nasty kitchen floor. I had put it off long enough, and I was mad about something, so I became the crazy cleaning lady. It took me an hour, and my hands were pretty raw from scrubbing on my hands and knees.

I also decided to attempt refashioning an old dress that was calling my name. Just my luck- I cut the sleeves too small, and after an hour of working on it, I scrapped it.

So, to fix my tired and frustrated mood, I started making cookies to make myself feel better. In the process, I made a mess and dropped an egg…on my freshly. mopped. floor.

By the end of it all, I had had so many mini-meltdowns throughout the day that I was done. I was convinced that my day was pretty much the worst. I feel like there were more things that day that upset me, but I’m trying to forget about them.

(Don’t worry. This is actually going to be a really positive and uplifting! Keep reading!)

So, while scrolling through Facebook and feeling sorry for myself, I stumbled upon my friend Melissa’s blog post about her experience going to Africa last month. I started reading and was suddenly humbled. It made me realize that my day wasn’t bad AT ALL.

That day, and today, I am grateful that my bad days aren’t even bad.

Being human, it’s easy to forget how blessed we are to have food in our kitchen, clean water coming from at least two rooms in our house through the simple action of turning on the faucet, and electricity in every room of our house at the flick of a switch.

It becomes routine. It’s amazing how quickly we can become so blind to the blessings in our lives. There is so much to be grateful for, and I am grateful for those humbling experiences that make me realize how blessed I really am.

I hope you take a minute today to think of some of the blessings in your life, and maybe read Melissa’s story. Have a great Tuesday!

Every Tuesday, I take a minute to reflect and write on what I am grateful for that week. I have found that it helps me take a step back to appreciate the blessing in my life, big or small.

So, what are you grateful for today? What have you noticed this week that you are grateful for? I would love to hear what you are grateful for in the comments.
